A career change could be a whole lot better (or much much worse) than you think
How many times have those thoughts swirled around in your head? When you think about a career change, do you feel/think:
You daydream about leaving your job – even the whole industry – once and for all
Logic says not to change because you worked so hard to get here, and after all, everything is just fine
The disgruntled voice in the back of your head reminds you of the million reasons youāll fail
Ā
A career change can often be downright scary. Personally, I spent years going through the same thoughts over and over again:Ā
Yes – itās time for a change, buuut, Iām comfortable here, so maybe I can survive a bit longerā¦Ā
No, I canāt, if I change, my entire career will be destroyedā¦Ā
Sure I can change, I just need to know what to do next and I have no clueā¦
Ā
And so the cycle continued – over and over and over
My thought process was on autopilot until one day I finally realized that I was having the same exact conversation with myself every single day and that if I didnāt make some critical life changes, I would be in this same conversation in another 5, 10 or even 20 more years.Ā That thought terrified me and it began to feel more scary to stay in a position I wasnāt thrilled with instead of facing the fear of making some dramatic changes.
It was time to take actionā¦ Stay tuned, Iāll get into what that action looked like soon.Ā
Had I listened to myself, my mind, and my intuition years earlier, I wouldnāt have gotten to the point of burnout that started hurting my health and relationships with my family. My hope for you is that you also listen to the softer side of making big life decisions, sooner and more intently than I did. These are often subtle whispers from your heart and the incessant nudge pointing you in an unknown direction.Ā
Ā Ā Ā Have the courage to follow your heart and intuition. They some how already know what you truly want to become. Everything else is secondary. ā Steve Jobs
